How long would it take to crack an 8 char DESCrypt password composed of ?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a using a GTX 1060 ?
I couldn't immediately find any public benchmarks on 4.x hashcat for a 1060.

If you happen to have one, run that actual attack and check the time estimate; that will be the most accurate way to get your answer.
OK, the card doesn't arrive for a week or so. Its was either a GTX 970 or 1060, and the 1060 seemed a lot faster.
Code:
OpenCL Platform #2: NVIDIA Corporation

Hash.Type........: descrypt, DES (Unix), Traditional DES

Time.Estimated...: Fri May 25 19:15:08 2018 (176 days, 18 hours)
Guess.Mask.......: ?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a [8]
Speed.Dev.#2.....:   434.4 MH/s (5.76ms)

edit: w2, w3 gets you up to ~450 MH/s
undeath, cool - yours? Was that under -w 4?

Here's one for 6x 1080s, -w 4:

Code:
Hash.Type........: descrypt, DES (Unix), Traditional DES
Time.Started.....: Wed Nov 29 14:20:19 2017 (1 min, 47 secs)
Time.Estimated...: Thu Dec 14 06:46:13 2017 (14 days, 16 hours)
Guess.Mask.......: ?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a [8]
Speed.Dev.#1.....:   875.9 MH/s (382.31ms)
Speed.Dev.#2.....:   861.9 MH/s (388.58ms)
Speed.Dev.#3.....:   872.8 MH/s (383.87ms)
Speed.Dev.#4.....:   871.5 MH/s (384.03ms)
Speed.Dev.#5.....:   872.2 MH/s (384.02ms)
Speed.Dev.#6.....:   874.4 MH/s (382.60ms)
Speed.Dev.#*.....:  5228.9 MH/s
Thanks for the benchs.

I saw a benchmark on the GTX 970:

Hashtype: descrypt, DES(Unix), Traditional DES
Workload: 128 loops, 256 accel

Speed.GPU.#1.: 89998.0 kH/s

Why's it so much slower than the 1060 ?
Ah, good that means I can OC and get more speed.
For a single 1060, it will still take four months, I would think.

Yeah, Im thinking of getting x2 1060s and a 1070.

Once done I can put them in to a secondary PC (which has an old GTX 260 at the moment).
