When using dual PSU's you have few problems. 1. You have somehow to equal load on both psu's, but in most cases 1 psu will be always on full load, and second somewhere at half. This depends on much f...

Downclock your HD5xxx card. It causes ASIC hang because of too low vcore voltage or wrong bios.

Try to read wiki (https://hashcat.net/wiki/doku.php?id=linux_server_howto) When you download oclHashcat, look a bit lower, you will see what driver is needed (not recommended but majority).

Still, looking at performance only, it's still possible to build whole system for one GTX970 price to get performance of two of them (hashcracking, also excluding some 64 bit algos :) ).

Don't know how your heat spreader is made, but it's possible in same way as 6990 (heatpipe on the crystal), so you just could damage it by pressing too hard when cleaning.

So if you planning to use as GPU rig, fx8350 will be more than enough, at least for 4 gpu's. Raw performance for CPU comparing AMD/Intel is a different story.

Depends on budget. For hash cracking I would go for something like 5870, 6950 and up. Also if electricity on mind - just 5xxx series. Like 5970 does same job as 6990 using ~35% less energy.
