Windows Operating System
This page is a simple guide for removing and installing AMD drivers in order to run oclhashcat successfully on a Windows PC.
As always, with any changes to your computer, you are responsible for making backups before starting.
Please take note of the GPU Driver and title at the top of the oclhashcat page. Please make certain you only download and install the recommended AMD Catalyst version.
Identify your GPU.
Go to this page and watch the instructional video at the bottom of the page entitled “Identify your card”
Check to see you have the latest stable release of oclhashcat. Pay particular attention to the recommended Catalyst version.
Go to this page and fill out the drop down boxes carefully.
Check the new driver is compatible with the latest current stable release of oclhashcat.
Download your new driver.
In control panel go to Programs (uninstall a program).
Look for AMD Catalyst Install Manager, then double click it.
The manager will take a little time before its ready, then press next.
Choose to uninstall all AMD software.
Your computer will need to reboot when finished.
Unpack the downloaded driver and software to a folder on your desktop. This makes it easier to find and delete later.
Disable any H.I.P.S software (known as Defence+ in Comodo Firewall) or at least select installer mode.
Run the installer and choose custom install.
Allow the installer to finish and reboot.
Test oclhashcat on completion.
If everything works ok you can delete the temporary installer folder on your desktop. It might be a good idea to retain the installer you downloaded for future use.
It has been reported that some users experience problems upgrading AMD drivers and software.
If after a successful install oclhashcat returns the error…
"ERROR: clBuildProgram() -11"
…follow the next steps.
Download the latest version of Driver Fusion. The free version is enough.
Install it.
After installation you can find the accompanying manual for Driver Fusion in the Windows start menu or in the installation folder itself. The manual is called 'Manual.pdf'.
In control panel go to Programs (uninstall a program).
Look for AMD Catalyst Install Manager, then double click it.
The manager will take a little time before its ready, then press next.
Choose to uninstall all AMD software.
Start Driver Fusion Free and uninstall all AMD files omitted by the AMD uninstaller.
Also find all files names OpenCL.dll in your windows directory. You need to remove them by Hand since driver fusion is not removing it.
Reboot when prompted.
Follow the “Install AMD Driver and Software” section above.
If you again receive the “ERROR: clBuildProgram() -11” message after following all the steps above, please check that your GPU is supported by AMD.
Make sure that you do not have installed the AMD APP SDK. It ships an opencl.dll that is incompatible to the opencl.dll that comes with the driver.
If all else fails please search the hashcat forum or post your issue.
